Details after 1st meeting

Day -15

Hello everyone! After today's meeting, here are some things to take note:

1. Here's a list of things for you to bring:

Cadet's List - Things to Bring.doc

2. Here's the EHL case study, for those of you who did not get the document.

Remember that you have to submit reports for both case studies (Africa and Singapore) to srcyaseanjumbara@gmail.com by 1200h, Sunday, 13 June.

3. To Group 4 and 6, remember that you have additional tasks to do:

Group 4: Research on Indonesia: Different Provinces, cultures and regions of each province
Group 6: Research on the General Customs and common phrases in Bahasa Indonesia.

Here is a sample of the study of Japan by one of the participants of the Japan Trip last year for your reference: Japan_Brief.doc

4. Group 2, you will also have an additional task to do: As we will be sleeping in huge 10 to 12-man tents, there is this competition for the best tent among all campers. Hence you have to come up with various ways in which we can decorate the tents with the Singapore theme eg. Pictures of Singapore's tourist attractions, a big cut up of the merlion etc. Do present your props by the next Meeting!

5. Group 6, ensure that you look into Delegation Logistics, and compile a list of Group logistics for each group (what each individual groups need to provide). Also, get hold the following items to be brought to the 2nd meeting:

- Red Cross Annual Report
- Red Cross newsletters
- Red Cross brochures
- Red Cross Posters

You may seek Mr Daniel Ong for help, at the following address: daniel.ong@redcross.org.sg

Seek your teacher facilitator should you need help as well. Bring the logistics list and the items above by the next meeting.

6. All participants, please call up your group leaders and inform them whether you will report at HQ on 22 June (Day of departure), or report directly to the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. All group ICs, please send us to list to srcyaseanjumbara@gmail.com by 1200h, 17 June, Thursday.

7. Remember to submit a photocopy of your passports to Mr Daniel Ong(VDD) at HQ. Seek your unitmates for information, or seek your YOs if you need help.

8. The next meeting will be on 20 June, 1.30pm-5pm. Remember that you need to present your performances with your full costumes, and bring the logistics that you need for static display, traditional games and the tent decoration.

Continue to refer to this website, as we will be posting more updates soon! Ask us should you need help! :D

Malaria Pills

Day -19

Hello everyone!

Here's the information on Malaria pills that you will need before going for the camp. Do seek your parents for assistance and consult your doctor before choosing the pill which is best for you!

There are two ways to go about your Anti Malaria Prophylaxis:

  1. MEFLOQUINE

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mefloquine

    1. This drug is to be taken on a WEEKLY BASIS.
    2. Take the first dose ONE WEEK BEFORE DEPARTURE, and one every week for the entire duration of your stay. Continue until FOUR WEEKS AFTER YOUR RETURN.
    3. This drug is relatively much costlier than Doxycycline, at approximately S$4.20 per tablet.
    4. This drug is not stocked by all doctors, so do check with your doctor over the phone whether he / she carries it before you head down to see him / her.

  1. DOXYCYCLINE

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxycycline

    1. This drug is to be taken on a DAILY BASIS.
    2. Take the first dose ONE TO TWO DAYS BEFORE DEPARTURE, and one EVERY DAY for the entire duration of your stay. Continue until SEVEN DAYS UPON RETURN.
    3. This drug is relatively much cheaper than Mefloquine, at approximately S$0.20 per capsule.
    4. Doxycycline has also less severe side-effects than Mefloquine for most people.
    5. Those who are allergic to TETRACYCLINE family of antibiotics are advised against taking this drug. It must also NOT be taken with calcium products (e.g. Milk, Soya Milk, etc). It must be taken WITH MEALS (not before or after).

Song & Mass Dance

Day -30

Hello everyone!

The Song "U & I, The Youth of Red Cross" can be found in the Mixpod on the left! Do start internalizing and enjoying the song. Afterall, it is a song created by our very own SRCY people, and Doreen Ma'am is one of the scriptwriters! This will be the song that we will share with the campers at Batam too, so let's start learning!

During the briefing, we were also asked to master the Mass Dance for sharing purposes when we're at Batam. Here's the video for all of us to learn from! Trust us, its really fun and entertaining!

So lets get started and learn with one another! :)

Welcome Note

Day -30

We officially started a reflectosphere for all SRCY campers of the ASEAN Jumbara 2010! Here is the place where every camper will be able to blog about everything regarding their experience of this exciting camp, from the preparations stage to the main camp itself.

We hope that this will be the main area where we can update everyone regarding our progress towards the camp, and share the various activities and reflections at the same time. So don't be shy and start reflecting!

Can't wait for the meeting! :)
